Water Polo & Swimming
The Old Whitgiftian Swimming Club (OWSC) is made up of two distinct parts – the “wallowers” and the water polo players – which both use the wonderful pool at Whitgift School. To use this facility, you need to be both an Alumni of Whitgift Foundation schools and a subscribing member of the Whitgift Sports Club. You will then also be able to take advantage of the many other benefits available, including discounted bar prices and discounted rates for hiring the clubhouse facilities. For more information and application form, please see the “Join Us” section.
The water polo players make up the majority of the club and are the only competitive part of the club. The water polo teams are competitive, play to win, and have a strong team spirit, built from a shared enthusiasm for the game and a strong sense of loyalty to each other and to the club.
The club competes in four water polo competitions. During the main season of March to October we enter one team in the London league (currently playing in Division 2) and two teams in the Surrey league (in Divisions 1 and 2). In the winter we enter one team in the Thameside league. This breadth of competition means that the water polo players span a wide range of ages and abilities and have games all year round.
Training and home matches are held at Whitgift School from 9 pm Wednesday evenings; away matches are often on other weekday evenings.
**Participation in Water Polo is open to “all”, you do not have to have attended Whitgift School.
The “Wallowers” are our recreational swimmers who swim for fitness and fun. They have access to the Whitgift School pool on Wednesdays between 8pm and 9pm.
